Theater, video and recording arts classes for high school students

The Capri’s summer theater, video and recording arts classes are all about opening up new possibilities for high school students. The three classes – Remix, Media 612 and CAST – will be held from 12:30-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 13 to July 1.  All three classes are free and open to students in grades 9-12.

Remix brings students interested in music and the recording arts together with teaching artist Allan Starks, who’s worked with leading recording artists throughout the country. Students will get hands-on experience with recording gear and make music that’s their own.

Media 612 gives students the opportunity to work in video production with teaching artist Ed Irwin, another experienced pro. The students will form a production crew that will develop concepts, and shoot and edit video, with an eye toward showcasing their work on the big screen at the Capri.

CAST theater students will dig deeply into a play by August Wilson – delving into the characters, their motivations, and the communities and times in which they lived. CAST Artistic Director Kevin West, an expert on August Wilson, will lead the students on this journey that includes a planned expedition to see Wilson’s play Jitney at the Penumbra Theater in October.

All classes take place at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway. If you or a high school student you know is interested in enrolling in Remix, Media 612 or CAST, contact Capri Director James Scott at jscott@pcyc-mpls.org or 612-643-2024.
