Low Income homeowners: Warm up with Affordable Solar

Written by Kristel Porter

MN Renewable Now is a small environmental nonprofit based in North Minneapolis, dedicated to building a carbon-free future by focusing on those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

In partnership with Cooperative Energy Futures, we’re excited to introduce their Affordable Solar Program to North Minneapolis, specifically supporting low-income homeowners and renters. As solar energy becomes increasingly essential, we are committed to ensuring these opportunities are accessible to everyone, especially those who are often overlooked or face financial barriers. Together, we’re working to make solar panels affordable and within reach for all members of our community!

Program benefits include:

  • Average bill reduction 30-40% for participating low-income units.
  • Full operational services for up to 25 years with solar panels, and you have the option to purchase the panels at a 90% or greater discount after 10 years.
  • Our program partnerguarantees to maintain the integrity of your home, provide maintenance and upkeep of the solar array, and tomaintain insurance on the solar array.

How can you join?

In order to participate in this program, property owners/renters must be income qualified, have property owner consent, and must become a member of the cooperative by investing $25.

Becoming a member allows you to vote for board members, have input on collective decision-making for the organization and to serve as a board member of Cooperative Energy Futures.
