From MN Renewable Now
As solar panels become a necessity for thousands of people, we are committed to ensuring that opportunities are available to those who are often overlooked or face difficulties. That’s why we’re making solar panels more accessible and affordable for low-income homeowners and renters.
Here are some benefits you will receive from our program: Average bill reduction 30-40% for participating low-income units. Full operational services for up to 25 years with solar panels, and you have the option to purchase the panels at a 90% or greater discount after 10 years. Our partner Cooperative Energy Futures guarantees not to damage the property and to maintain insurance on the solar array.
In order to qualify for the program renters and homeowners must either live in affordable housing or qualify for one or more public assistance programs: Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and/or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants; LiHEAP participants (50% AMI); Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP); Habitat for Humanity homeowners / homes under construction; Community land trust homeowners (examples: City of Lakes Community Land Trust, Rondo Community Land Trust, etc.); Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher users (50% AMI); or Medical Assistance recipients. Why should you join Affordable Solar? Our program aims to empower communities across Minnesota to transition to clean energy solutions, creating opportunities for everyone to build wealth through renewable energy.
Participants in the program typically save $300 to $500 annually on their utility bills. However, the longer you have the solar panels and participate in the program the more your savings will increase each year.
