Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) celebrated the grand openings of the North High School renovation and new North Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center with ribbon cuttings on October 2 at 1500 James Ave North.
Construction began in 2020 with a total budget of $88 million. The work included a new welcoming entrance and common area for students at North, lunchroom and kitchen upgrades, improvements to the auditorium and new single-user restrooms. The North CTE Center features areas for specialized learning, including a digital media production center, areas for drone flying and a simulated ambulance for emergency response training.
“This is an important investment in North High students, CTE students and the community,” said MPS Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams. “We want North students to feel proud and valued when they walk in the front door of their high school and see the improvements. And we know early training for careers like the ones North CTE prepares students is valuable to our communities, so this new center represents an investment in our students that benefits the larger community.”
