The Salvation Army in the Twin Cities has launched its annual “Coats For Kids” campaign to collect warm weather gear for Twin Cities children in need. Due to the impact of inflation on rising prices for food, gas, rent and utilities, the cost of winter wear is an additional stress for families that continue to struggle with financial pressures again this winter.
The public can help by donating new or gently used coats for children and youth of all ages—as well as winter accessories like hats, mittens, gloves, boots and snow pants. The Coats For Kids drive is running now through Saturday, October 5.
“Families that are struggling are always having to make difficult choices,” said Lt. Colonel E. Randall Polsley, Salvation Army Northern Division commander, which includes Minnesota and North Dakota. “They face numerous challenges when incomes can’t keep pace with the rising cost of food and living expenses. Our annual coat drive is intended to help alleviate one of those burdens, so that kids will have good coats to keep them safe and warm this winter.”
Coats and other winter wear can be dropped off at any of their service center locations: Salvation Army Division Headquarters, 2445 Prior Ave. N., Roseville; Brooklyn Park Salvation Army, 10011 Noble Parkway; North Minneapolis Salvation Army, 2024 Lyndale Ave. N.; and Northeast Minneapolis Salvation Army, 2727 Central Ave. NE.
