The MSP Film Society, in partnership with the Capri and the Minnesota Historical Society, presents the heartwarming, Oscar-winning, Pixar-animated film, Soul, at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 6 at the newly renovated Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway.
Tickets to First Thursday Films are free for Northside residents (zip codes 55411, 55412, 55430). Northsiders will be asked to submit their zip code information at the door or enter it as a promo code during checkout. $5 tickets can also be purchased in advance at mspfilm.org or at the door the night of the show. All tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ample free parking is available in the lot just west of the Capri.
Soul tells the story of Joe Gardner, an average guy teaching middle-school music, whose true passion is jazz – and he’s good.When he finally earns the chance to perform onstage, though, he has an accident that leaves him in a near-death state. As he’s trapped in this strange land between Earth and the afterlife, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.
The film is directed by Minnesotan Pete Docter and Kemp Powers, with music by John Batiste, Trent Raznor and Atticus Ross. Jamie Foxx is the voice of Joe.
Be sure to stay for what will surely be an animated conversation after the movie, led by Craig Laurence Rice with special guest, 3D animator and professor Kristin Solid. Solid’s production credits include over 20 Hollywood feature films as well as games, ride films and commercials. Most recently, she animated and supervised a global team of animators on The Yin Yang Master, a feature film that premiered on Netflix in 2021.
