The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul presents The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution

The Capri Theater and the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul are proud to open their new, collaborative film series, First Thursday Films @ the Capri, with the multi-award-winning documentary, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution on Thursday, November 5 at 7 p.m. at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway. Tickets are $5; purchase in advance at mspfilm.org or at the door on 11/5.

This film is the first feature length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party and its impact on civil rights and American culture. Director Stanley Nelson weaves a treasure trove of rare archival footage with the voices of the people who were there: police, FBI informants, journalists, white supporters and detractors, and Black Panthers who remained loyal to the party and those who left it. The Washington Post calls the film “a lively, intimate chapter of political history that feels stingingly urgent.”a-firstthurs women

John Wright, U of M professor of Afro-American & African Studies will introduce the film. Craig Rice, special projects programmer for the Film Society, will moderate a discussion after the screening.

Join us for this inaugural film and discussion – and tell friends and colleagues about this exciting, new film series that’s happening in the heart of North Minneapolis.
