Community Garden Day, on Saturday, September 19, is a day to recognize the contributions of community gardeners to the health, vitality and livability of their communities, and also serves as an opportunity to spread awareness about the multiple benefits of community gardens to the public. More about community gardening is available in the most recent Snapshot of Community Gardening in MN, published by Gardening Matters – check out gardeningmatters.org.
On Community Gardening Day there are events all over the metro area promoting gardens. Two events in Camden are:
NoMi Homie Garden, 3500 Humboldt Ave. N., 2-4 p.m. Arts and crafts in the garden. Come and make fairy houses to leave in the garden so our tiny magical friends can come and stay. We can even have a scavenger hunt at the end. Snacks are provided. This is for kids of all ages and those young at heart! Info: facebook.com/groups/1416060725322374/.
Hamilton Manor Highrise Community Garden, 1314 44th Ave. N., 1 p.m. Residents of the highrise participating in their onsite community garden will do a small tour of their garden, share info about what they are growing, and showcase their new hydroponic salad table that allows them to grow salad greens.
