Open Streets coming to West Broadway

For the first time on West Broadway Avenue, residents will have the opportunity to explore and enjoy their neighborhood streets, without the presence of motorized traffic at Open Streets Broadway!  West Broadway between Lyndale and Penn will be open to all on Saturday, September 10, 11 a.m. -5 p.m. For more info: openstreets@westbroadway.org.

Public hearing on 2017 City Budget

Mayor Hodges is proposing that 70 percent of budget additions are for Public Safety – 15 new cops and five new firefighters. See the budget address at minneapolismn.gov/finance/budget. The public can weigh in on the proposed 2017 budget on Wednesday, November 30, 6:05 p.m., Room 317 City Hall, 350 S. 5th St.

City moves forward on Minimum Wage Ordinance

The City Council is directing staff to review and bring back recommendations on increasing the minimum wage by ordinance. Staff recommendations are to be returned in 2017.

The action directs staff to work with stakeholders, review policies from other cities and the upcoming minimum wage study, and recommend a plan by 2nd quarter, 2017. They must formulate a plan for engagement on or before Oct. 5, 2016.

Get behind the scenes – Learn how the City works

The City Academy is a free five week series on how Minneapolis government works including topics on taxes, planning, public works and police and fire operations. Attendees will also get tours of the City’s 911 operations center and the water treatment facility. The City Academy will be held Wednesdays, Sept. 21-Oct 19.
