The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is beginning work on a new project that will create a plan to guide improvements and stewardship at North Mississippi Regional Park for the next 20+ years. Community Advisory Committee (CAC) members will participate in regular meetings over the next year and collectively make recommendations on a new long-term plan for North Mississippi park.
The goal of the North Mississippi Regional Park Plan is to establish priorities and a vision for both short-term and long-term development and improvements at the park. To ensure that the park’s features and amenities align with community needs, MPRB staff will collaborate closely with the community in shaping the future direction of the park. The Plan will be developed through a collaboration between the project team, advisory committees, community groups and park users. This includes the CAC, made up of people who will participate in regularly scheduled meetings and collectively make recommendations about the plan’s content.
Once developed, the plan will be presented for approval by the MPRB Commissioners, and to qualify for regional funding, it must also be approved by the Metropolitan Council before implementation can begin.
The first North Mississippi Park Plan CAC Meeting was March 13, the next CAC meeting will be Thursday, April 24, from 6-8 p.m. at the Kroening Nature Center, 4900 N Mississippi Dr. All CAC meetings are open to the public.
