The Lunar Eclipse on Friday, March 14 was easily viewed in our area on the mostly cloudless night. This photo was taken at 12:07 a.m., about halfway to totality.
Each full moon has a name; Worm Moon is the most common name for March according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. This name is traditionally thought to refer to the earthworms that appear as the soil warms in spring. This month’s moon is also referred to as the Blood Worm Moon or Blood Moon, as when the moon eclipse is in totality it looks red or orange in color. Snow Crust Moon is an Anishinaabe term. Sore Eyes Moon is a Dakota, Lakota name. (Photo by Randy Klauk.)
