Living in this part of city, there are so many hidden gems. If you go to the sledding hill page for the Minneapolis Parks (minneapolisparks.org), they do not mention one of the smaller hills — but there’s a very popular neighborhood sledding hill nestled at North 50th between Morgan and Logan. Probably built between the 1950s and the 1960s, the sledding hill is not large but it is still it is popular.
I went out to the hill recently just as a snow storm was ending. It was clear that a lot of people had been waiting for snow. There were so many sledding and people tracks. When I was there, there were two families and a couple of teenagers. Most use the Shingle Creek side to sled. The snow was still fluffy so the sledders were not going far.
When the snow starts to melt and becomes ice, that is when to be on the hill. You can get some speed and wonder if you are going to hit a tree or going flying over the bike path. I’ve never seen either happen but it is quite a ride for such a small hill. You have to bring whatever you want to go down the hill on (there are no attendants here so you do it at your own risk). I have seen sleds, pool inflatables, inflatable tires — all can give you a good ride. I did see a pallet up on the hill, it was abandoned, probably too much friction to work!
