Broomball is back at Shingle Creek Park. The Byrn Mawr league had to be moved to Shingle Creek due to construction of their rink. There are games on Mondays and Tuesdays. Usually starting at 6 p.m.
I have also seen an unofficial team play on Saturday. I have been told that these rinks are open to others to use when there are no official games being played, but it is only for broomball, which does not use skates, pucks or a hockey stick – broomball uses rubber shoes, a rubber ball and a stick to push the ball.
It is not known if there will be broomball at Shingle Creek next year. The Camden area does not have a broomball league, so it depends if there is still construction going on and if the league wants to travel the long distance to Shingle Creek if there will be broomball at Shingle Creek next year.
Last year, due to warm temperatures, the broomball rinks were used for only one week — the rest of the time the rink was a shallow pond used by the ducks and geese. This year is looking much more promising. You can see the broomball schedule at teamsideline.com/sites/minneapolisparks/schedules.
