Thoughts on our city’s future

I am a member of the Minneapolis community who is deeply concerned about our city. I want to share some thoughts about State Senator Omar Fateh, who is running for Mayor of Minneapolis.

Many of us can relate to Omar Fateh’s journey. He is a husband, a renter and the son of Somali immigrants. For many years, he has advocated for working people and fought to ensure our community gets the support it needs to thrive. He is ready to bring that energy and commitment to the mayor’s office.

Many of us are feeling the pressure of rising costs and uncertain futures. We need strong local leadership that truly understands our struggles. Omar has a proven track record in the Minnesota Senate, where he has worked on important daily issues that affect our lives. He has helped secure free college tuition for many students, ensured that rideshare drivers earn a fair wage, and brought significant funding for public safety to Minneapolis. He has also supported plans to create more affordable housing.

What gives me hope is Omar’s vision for the future. He believes in building a city where everyone can live with dignity and security, regardless of background or income. He envisions Minneapolis as a city that prioritizes people over corporate interests.

Omar is also profoundly concerned about the safety and future of our children. He understands the dangers they face, from gangs to drugs, and wants to ensure they have the support and opportunities they need to succeed.

It has been over four years since George Floyd’s tragic death, and many of us are still waiting for meaningful changes in public safety and police accountability. Omar wants to work closely with the City Council to create real solutions that benefit our community rather than just sticking to the old ways.

Minneapolis deserves a leader who will advocate for its people, and Omar Fateh has proven he is that leader. As a resident, a parent and someone who cares about this city, I urge my fellow community members to learn more about Omar’s vision for our future. We need a mayor who will work as hard as we do to create a city we can all be proud of.
