Harvest for Health Free Community Salad Bar

Last Sunday I popped over to the Natural Me Apothecary to pick up some Ashwagandha and Black Walnut root. Can I tell you how incredible it is to have an apothecary right here in our neighborhood? While I am thrilled to be able to highlight Eva Nyrie Garrett and her new shop next issue, I absolutely want to talk about the “Harvest for Health Free Community Salad Bar” event that happens once a month!

Provided by The People’s Market MPLS, Metro Food Justice Network, and of course Natural Me Apothecary, for a select few hours once a month on a Sunday, folks can come and receive a free Salad. More than that, the list of ingredients you get to choose from to design your own salad is long and full of fresh, bright, colorful, and flavorful produce! I had heard about this event online, but like many things, told myself I would remember and didn’t. So imagine my delight, when the day I chose to go to the shop, it was Salad Bar day!

Participants can choose to eat their salad there in the shop or get it to go. While you wait for your custom-made salad, you can browse the products, chat with neighbors, look over one of the many dozens of books in their library, or pull up a chair and do some work. I chose to hang with a friend and neighbor and then delighted in my delicious salad. What a gift that Eva Garrett and DeVon Nolen (pictured) are in providing this service.

The next Harvest for Health Free Community Salad Bar will be on January 19, at the Natural Me Apothecary on 42nd and Lyndale Ave N. Make sure to “Follow” and “Like” The People’s Market MPS on FB and join the event “Harvest to Health – Free Community Salad Bar” to register to help the organizers plan for numbers.
