Economics in the Black changing the Northside narrative

What a time around the town on September 28 for participants in the 2024 Northside Ramble, a bike tour that showcased a different side of North Minneapolis.

The perfect autumn day drew participants from across the city, with a group of about 40 cyclists touring hotspots in North Minneapolis, including Get Down Coffee Shop, North Market, Minuteman Press, V3 Sports, TAP IN Kitchen, local breweries and other popular sites. The tour highlighted Black-owned businesses and how they are reshaping the narrative of North Minneapolis. The theme of this year’s tour was “Economics in the Black.”

Funds raised from the event will benefit The Link, a nonprofit founded in 1991 by former Minnesota Vikings players Jim Marshall and Oscar Reed, two local Black leaders passionate about supporting Northside youths facing poverty, homelessness and crime. The Link provides programs in housing, youth advocacy, and emergency shelter, helping youth and families overcome the challenges of poverty and social injustice.

Cycling through the vibrant community, visiting local businesses, and connecting with Northside residents was a powerful reminder of the love and resilience that make our community so special. The Northside community stands together in support of one another, and the Rotary Club of North Minneapolis is proud to be part of this ongoing effort.

The Rotary Club of North Minneapolis extends its gratitude to our generous sponsors and supporters who made the event possible. Big kudos to Broadhead, a Minneapolis-based marketing agency that provided planning and media support.

The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday by Zoom from 7:35-8:35 a.m. All are welcome to attend a meeting. Contact northmplsrotary@gmail.com to request the link.
