Tuesday, November 5, is Election Day, and the Capri will once again serve as a polling place for voters in Ward 5. But don’t wait! Anyone can vote early at the Capri on Sunday October 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. And don’t stop there! Use your feet and free time to exercise your right to the pursuit of happiness at the Capri throughout the whole month.
That starts with A Thousand and One, our selection for First Thursday Films. Join us on November 7 for this powerful 2023 film about a mother who kidnaps her child out of foster care. Stick around after the movie for a conversation led by Neda Renee Kellogg of Project Diva.
First Thursday films start at 7 p.m., and entrance is free for Northside residents; others can obtain $5 tickets at mspfilm.org.
The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra debuts its 2024-25 “Northside Series” from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8 with a performance of works by Jerod Tate, Valerie Coleman and Beethoven. Tickets are free for Northsiders (reservations are required at thespco.org – enter your zipcode as the promo code) and children; reserved seating tickets $16-$36 for non-Northside adults. Relive the glory days of Lionel Richie “All Night Long” — or at least an hour and a half — with the local singing trio, CoMingL, at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 9 and 3 p.m. Sunday, November 10. Singers g’Beau, William Wesley and Kelz, will be backed by a mighty seven-piece band for these Legends @ the Capri concerts. Tickets $25, $30 at the door, $20 each for groups of 10 or more available at thecapri.org.
The hard-but-fun work of the Capri Glee! Adult Community Choir, and its leaders J.D. Steele and Fred Steele, culminates in the fall concert at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, November 12. Free to everyone, but reservations are required at capri.simpletix.com beginning Monday, October 28.
Youth in grades 5-8 are invited to attend Camp Capri from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, where painter and educator Kenneth Caldwell will lead this month’s session connecting neighborhood youth to the arts. Camp Capri S3 is free, with lunch served. Registration required at thecapri.org.
Upcoming Capri rentals include a (free!) Halloween party put on by Project Refocus, the fourth year running for that organization. The party is held on the Capri Plaza from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, and features activities, candy and food.
On Halloween itself, October 31, from 6- p.m. on the Capri Plaza,Black People Win presents “Halloween Joy Edition,” an improvised storytelling experience that employs audience participation to build a narrative where Black characters come out ahead. Candy and music are available to all, plus prizes for participants.
On November 15, local piano legend Cornbread Harris comes to the Capri for a performance of “Cornbread and Friends,” presented by Currency Exchange Entertainment. Doors open at 4:50 p.m., and the concert is scheduled from 5-9 p.m. Tickets $30 presale or $35 at the door; find the ticket link at thecapri.org.
Threads Sneaker Ball gives fans of shoes and dancing the chance to show off their kicks and moves. Join the Threads Company dancers for a night of fundraising, music and food from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. Tickets $35; find the ticket link at thecapri.org.
