An afternoon of neighborhood fellowship, food and sounds of the city pretty much sums up Open Streets on West Broadway on September 21. And the Rotary Club of North Minneapolis was on the block promoting literacy by handing out books to kids and adults featuring the lives and stories of Black and Brown people, both local and beyond. A big thanks to Breck School for donating the books.
Visitors to the booth were greeted by club members giving out hugs and warm greetings. In addition to books, informational brochures about the club were included in takeaway items along with other fun trinkets.
The Rotary Club’s Education and Literacy committee sponsored the activities including distributing books to Northside communities of color with an emphasis on children’s books. The Rotary Club sponsors the Little Free Library at Shiloh Temple International Ministries.
The pillars of Rotary Club of North Minneapolis include Education and Literacy, Peace and Conflict Resolution, and Maternal and Child Health. The Rotary meets virtually every Tuesday from 7:35-8:35 a.m. and welcomes Northside community members and professionals to get involved. Contact northmplsrotary@gmail.com to request a meeting link.
