The Story Garden is a community resource located at 35th and Humboldt Ave N. For years the garden has provided food and events that bring people together, and this summer is no different. This year the garden is flourishing with an abundance of rain and community participation. Neighbors have been spending roughly 10-12 hours a week out in the garden which provides beautiful opportunities for folks walking by to learn about the garden and what it provides. Early this spring the garden was flourishing with raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, kale and black raspberries. Currently you can harvest gooseberries, kale, peppers, tomatoes, spinach, peas, green beans and wild flowers.
As we continue to dig out more weeds and plant late season crops, the garden is a place where folks can sit and relax, pull a few weeds, watch the bees, or explore the array of plants in their journey to producing vegetation.
Beyond providing food for the neighborhood, the garden provides a peaceful and welcoming gathering place for neighbors to meet neighbors and build connections. If you are able, make sure to come out and join us at the different events held in August at the garden: Tuesday, August 6, 10 a.m.-noon Tend the Garden; Wednesday, August 14, 6-8 p.m. Tend the Garden; and Friday, August 23, 8 p.m. Community Bonfire.
Events to keep an eye out for:
October 19 is our Free Pumpkin Giveaway and Harvest party. Bike, walk, or wagon down to the garden and harvest your free Halloween pumpkin, play some games, get some treats, and enjoy the festival bonfire.
November will be our Harvest Supper! Date TBD.
December 1 is our Winter Tree Event! Come decorate ornaments for the critters to eat during the cold months, enjoy a warm bonfire and community connection.
