Help plan the future of North Mississippi Regional Park

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is starting up a new project that will create a plan to guide improvements and stewardship at North Mississippi Regional Park for the next 20+ years.

The MPRB is seeking people to serve on the project Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and help plan the future of North Mississippi Park. The CAC is made up of people who will participate in regularly scheduled meetings and collectively make recommendations about the plan’s content.

The total time commitment for CAC members is estimated at 35-45 hours total over the course of 18+ months. Go to minneapolisparks.org for info. CAC applications are due Friday, August 2.

There are 17 available positions for the CAC. Nine of the 17 CAC positions will be selected by the MPRB Commissioners (one selection per commissioner); the remaining eight positions will be recommended by a Selection Committee comprised of community group representatives and MPRB staff. The eight recommended applicants by the Selection Committee are subject to approval by MPRB Commissioners.

Applicants may be contacted directly during the selection process and will be notified whether they are selected in September or October. The first meeting is scheduled in fall 2024.

North Mississippi Regional Park covers 67 acres along the North Minneapolis riverfront, including the Carl W. Kroening Nature Center building. The park features trails that wind through woodland, prairie and riverfront areas, river access with a boat launch, large picnic areas, and a playground and wading pool.

The Plan for North Mississippi Regional Park (North Mississippi Park Plan) will be developed over the next two years through a collaboration between the project team, advisory committees, community groups and park users.
