Folwell Park project delayed until 2025

Unfortunately, construction of planned improvements project at Folwell park, including an all-wheel/skate park, is postponed until 2025. The delay is due to submitted construction bids that exceed the project budget.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has experienced several other cases this year of construction bids exceeding budgets for park improvements projects.

MPRB staff will re-bid construction for the Folwell Park project in the fall, following some changes to the design; they believe bids will be more favorable as a result.

Folwell Park and Recreation Center has benefited from a number of improvements, thanks to funding from the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan.

Planned improvements for 2025 include: An all-wheel park – with features like a clamshell pocket, rolled volcano hip, mini ramp and snake run – this park welcomes all skill levels and all types of wheeled fun: bikes as well as skateboards, scooters, skates, wheelchairs and park amenities.

Improvements since 2017: Playground south of recreation center replaced; tennis courts renovated; lighting added for west athletic field; updates and replacements to the recreation center kitchens, craft rooms, restrooms, roof; accessibility improvements for the parking lot, sidewalk leading to the recreation center, and center entry; and path connecting the courts and playground.
