Students’ ventures in the arts
A mural created to reach out and change the world
Camden High Art instructor Erica Ilich asked students to embellish a school basement hallway with murals of their visions for a better world while beautifying their school. Arrow Y. took days to complete her artistry which reflects her hope for her future in the world. She wants to go into pediatrics and use murals as a way to shine the children’s hospital wings. She says, “I hope that this mural brings people together. I want this mural to be a reminder that even though we’re growing up, deciding our career paths at the ripe age of 18, we’re still kids deep down inside. Some of us didn’t get to experience that colorful childhood, so hopefully this mural will erase everyone’s baggage. Like an Arrow, keep shooting forward!”
A group of art students toured the Walker Art Center on April 13. Their favorite part of the venture was being outside in the sculpture garden.
The whole Camden High School is immersed in preparation for their annual attendance at a Shakespearean performance at the Guthrie Theater. They will be going to the play Henry V on May 16.
Herobotic ventures
As previously reported in April’s Camden Community News, Mina Duden was selected as a Dean’s List Finalist at the Great Northern Regional Robotics competition in Grand Forks, North Dakota. All Dean’s List Finalists for FRC (an international robotics competition) and FTC (competition for grades 7-12) were honored at a luncheon on Friday, April 19 at the FIRST Championships in Houston, Texas with Mina and mentor Carly Robison attending.
The Herobotics team once again participated in the Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional (sponsored by Medtronic) at the U of M on April 6 and 7. They ranked 12th of 62 teams in qualifications, and even won a match with just two robots against the other three. In addition to the team doing well, Carly won Volunteer of the Year for the 10K competition!
The history of robotics at Camden High and visions of the future of the team will be told in future Camden News issues.
