During this series highlighting local Northside businesses, today we want to shine a light on one of the great local chiropractors. If you are looking for a local health practitioner who is affordable and holistically focused on you as a complete and complex living organism, check out Watson Chiropractic on Broadway. In an effort to strive for a walkable life, I appreciate that I can visit Dr. Tara Watson for a variety of health ailments as well as general self-care. She has been able to help me when I had plantar fasciitis, a rolled ankle, tight back, hip pain and neck pain. My son has also seen her after multiple sports injuries, along with general maintenance to take care of his body. While I could write a whole article from my perspective, I would like to share her heart and vision of her work in her own words through an interview I did with her this past month.
The goal of Watson Chiropractic is to “Serve outstanding chiropractic care to members of the community, educate, inspire and provide affordable care in a caring, professional environment. To alleviate pain, but also to educate and inspire patients to become active participants in their own well-being and health.”
What is at the heart of what you do? My desire is to help and heal by providing holistic health healing to support and heal the mind body and spirit. Community and patients are truly at the heart of what I do as they are the end users. My family’s love and support of the work and the understanding they provide help drive this work.
What do you wish people knew about their bodies to help with their overall health? The body has an innate ability to heal itself when barriers are removed. Those barriers can include subluxations/misalignment, oxygenation, infection, age and sex hormones, stress, diabetes, obesity, medications, alcoholism, smoking and nutrition. So if people are intentional about their lifestyle, it can have a bigger impact on protecting their health.
Why did you choose the location you are at for your business? Growing up in an inner city, North Minneapolis reminded me of home. I wanted to add value to ensure individuals don’t have to leave their community for vital services and goods. I also have a desire to be a part of transforming West Broadway and North into a destination.
Do you face any challenges in your field or where your business is located? I do face challenges in my location, as crime and safety are major concerns for people in and outside the community. North Minneapolis still has that negative narrative attached to it. This zip code drives up insurance costs and premiums. There is also an additional cost to do business to ensure the safety of your business
What got you into chiropractic work? I was always interested in the healthcare field. I began my career as a nurse which was my first degree obtaining a BSN. I decided after coming from a sports/ track and field background, dealing with injuries to advance my career by going to Chiropractic School.
What is the full scope of your work? Watson Chiropractic is a leading healthcare provider committed to enhancing the well-being of our patients through personalized chiropractic care. With a team of dedicated professionals and state-of-the-art facilities, we focus on holistic healing, emphasizing patient education and proactive wellness strategies. Our mission is to relieve pain, restore mobility, and promote overall health, ensuring a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
Do you have visions for the future of your business and what are they? I have plans to expand the existing business, potentially new business opportunities and development.
You serve on the West Broadway Coalition (WBC), are you still a member? I am still serving on the WBC in the past president role. After that time I will still be a member having served on the board for over nine years. I have learned and grown personally and professionally serving on the WBC board. I started as a member and then elected to serve on the executive committee helping to stabilize and grow the organization. My time with this organization taught me how to support businesses in many capacities as well as help create a vibrant West Broadway corridor.
In your experience, what are the barriers people have in coming to visit chiropractors for their health? Knowing where chiropractors fit in the integrated healthcare system. What we do, and how we are a necessary piece of the plan of care. The barrier I believe is the low rate of reimbursements from managed care programs.
