Winter Solstice 2023 is in the books! Despite the absence of snow and a steady drizzle, Creekview Recreation Center witnessed a vibrant celebration during this year’s Winter Solstice event. The Shingle Creek Neighborhood Association, in collaboration with Victory and Webber-Camden Neighborhoods, orchestrated a stylish event that brought the community together.
Loring Elementary students adorned the park’s trails with luminary bags, casting a beautiful glow. Attendees enjoyed a leisurely stroll through this illuminated path before gathering around a fire pit to toast marshmallows for s’mores. Inside, Corner Coffee provided delightful hot chocolate while DJ Lance set the festive mood with holiday tunes. The crowd was entertained by the traditional Mexican dances of Nuestra Lucha. And guests had the opportunity to engage with 2-1-1 United Way and connect with collaborating neighborhoods.
Following the dance performances, the gymnasium hosted a marketplace featuring the handcrafted goods of over 20 talented Northside artisans. Among them were names like My Pit Bull Is Family, Dream Shop, Fair Trade, Mc Floofy Pants and more.
This year’s event saw the return of D&D Goodies and welcomed newcomers La Cochinta and Rollin Nollan BBQ, offering a delightful array of food options. As guests waited for their treats, both children and adults enjoyed the company of Little Blue’s Traveling Petting Zoo, an exciting opportunity for many to interact up close with goats, sheep, pigs and an alpaca.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who joined us at this memorable event. We eagerly anticipate welcoming you again next year. If you’re interested in contributing to future neighborhood gatherings, reach out to your local neighborhood association (see pages 8 and 9) and stay tuned for updates in the Camden News.
