Plan to vote on Tuesday, November 7 – or you can vote early!

Your vote matters. This year voters will choose a candidate for Minneapolis City Council. This is your opportunity to select the person who best represents your voice in city government, who carries your concerns to city hall, and who advocates for you when you need assistance.

Election Day is coming soon on November 7, but you don’t have to wait until then to vote. Anyone who can vote in Minneapolis on Election Day can vote early at the Early Vote Center, 980 E. Hennepin Ave.

From now through Sunday, October 29 the Early Vote Center’s hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The following week the center’s weekday hours increase to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center’s last day of service is Monday, November 6, which is the day before Election Day, and hours on November 6 are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also, voters at the Early Vote Center can now place their ballot directly into the tabulator without needing to complete a series of envelopes, just like the process on Election Day.

Everyone planning to cast their ballots on Election Day, November 7, should do the following:

•              Check your polling place location at pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us.

•              Check the status of your registration at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website, sos.state.mn.us. If you need to update your registration, review what you will need to bring as proof of residence when you vote.

•              Look at a sample ballot ahead of time; even bring it to refer to when you go to vote. Find your sample ballot at vote.minneapolismn.gov/voters/ballot.

Also note, this local Minneapolis city election will be decided by ranked choice voting which allows you to ‘rank’ the candidates on the ballot, (first, second and third choices). To assist you with ranked choice voting go to vote.minneapolismn.gov/ranked-choice-voting/. At the polling place you can get help from poll workers to guide you through the voting process.

Residents should have gotten the 2023 Minneapolis Voter Information Guide in the mail recently. The guide gives you all the basics on voting this year, including info on rank choice voting.

The Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services Division is responsible for administering elections in the City of Minneapolis. For info about registering and voting go to vote.minneapolismn.gov.
