Looking for a new job? The University of Minnesota probably has something you’d be interested in. Come to the Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC), 2001 Plymouth Ave, on Wednesday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss open positions including lab techs, drivers, cooks, dining attendants and security officers, or ask a recruiter where you might fit at the University. Sign in at the front table for the chance to win a free U of M t-shirt.
University employees include gardeners, accountants, truck drivers, beekeepers, nurses, a ship captain, and of course, professors. “I think the University represents a nice balance of people–you have the students, the staff, the professors, and visitors all coming together to enjoy our beautiful campus,” said Ernest Bergmann, who’s worked at the U of M as a senior laborer in landcare for about four years.
Farhiyo Ahmed, an operations manager in the University’s Parking & Transportation Services department, agrees. “This is a job for everybody. The people I work with are the reason I’m here, and this is an environment where you’ll feel welcome.”
Benefits, including 12 paid holidays, low-cost health insurance coverage, and free or reduced-cost University classes, represent another reason University employees stay with the U of M. “The medical, dental, short- and long-term disability, and retirement pension I get at the University are phenomenal,” said Nate Olson, a senior veterinary technician at the University’s Veterinary Medical Center.
