Refreshing Your Spirit

The Northside Healing Space.

The Annual Bus Tour of North Minneapolis

Take a historical bus tour of our Northside community, from the borders of Brooklyn Center to Bryn Mawr! This year’s theme for our annual historical Tour of North Minneapolis is “Refreshing Your Spirit.” We will visit places where people gather together or reflect in solitude, places that replenish your soul. Historical facts and stories will be interjected as we ride between our stops to points of interest. See the sights and hear the stories that make us who we’ve been, who we are and who we are becoming.

The Tour Leader is Susan Curnow Breedlove, historian, archivist, and resident of Northside for over a half a century. The residential tour guide will share the places where she refreshes her spirit, from a coffee shop to a dog park, an almost hidden Mississippi River trail to a neighborhood heron rookery, a garden that connects urban farmers to their neighbors, a grocery store with pop-up plant sales and zumba, a hardware store where helpful employees meet you at the door, the community of people of all races and cultures on her block, sites to pick fruit for jam, the local KMOJ and KBEM radio stations, etc.

Stops will include the Capri Theater, the heron rookery on the Mississippi, the Northside Healing Space, the Loppet and Trailhead of Theodore Wirth Park, Eloise Butler Flower Garden and Ascension Church. We will be doing some walking at several stops along the way. Tours in the past decade have sold out because there is no standing room on the bus, so don’t wait too long to reserve your seat. You’ll have an opportunity to purchase a lunch from a Northside restaurant or bring your own.

Save the date: Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – cost is $45.The tour is sponsored by Henry High Community Education. Contact Kevin Czmowski, Henry Community Education Coordinator, at 612-668-1922.
