Spring events are blossoming at the Capri!

As the winter season begins to turn toward spring, the Capri is warming up, too, with a series of captivating events, starting with the First Thursday Films screening of the expansive horror epic, Nope, on March 2 at 7 p.m. Tamiko French,founder of the Legacy Arts Group, and MSP Film programmer Craig Laurence Ricewill lead the always- intriguing conversation after the film. First Thursday Films returns with The Woman King,starring Oscar-winner Viola Davis, at 7 p.m. on April 6, and the Capri will also screen a number films during the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival, April 13-27.  First Thursday Films tickets are $5 or free for Northsiders and they’re available online at mspfilm.org, or at the door.

On Monday, March 6, from 6 to 9 p.m., community members are invited to come together for Bridge the Faultlines: Stories of Racism, Resistance & Repair. This Capri rental event features a PBS series of documentary shorts, Jim Crow of the North Stories, iconic performers, transformative historians, authentic realtors, music, poetry, food, and more, presented by Mapping Prejudice, the City of Golden Valley, and other partners. The 2023 Minneapolis Preservation Awards will be held at the Capri on Wednesday, March 15, from 5-7:30 p.m. This event celebrates the city’s best work in historic preservation, restoration, adaptive re-use and many other outstanding preservation projects. Sing this spring! Rehearsals for the Capri Glee! adult community choir, directed by J.D. Steele, start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 and run through April 18, culminating in a glee-full concert at 7 p.m. on April 25. All are welcome, no experience is necessary, and all participants are inspired to make joyful music together. Register online for this free, six-week session at thecapri.org.

Camp Capri S3 for middle school-age arts explorers will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, and guest artists, Julie Acton and Jacourtney Mountain-Bluhm, are bringing in the sewing machines! They’ll be sharing their talents and sewing savvy with our scholars, and together they will create wonderful things. Camp Capri S3 is free (includes lunch). Register at thecapri.org.

And Legends @ the Capriis back in March with “Taylor Made,”featuring Michael Monroe and Dennis Spears in an homage to the writings and vocal stylings of James Taylor, including Fire and Rain, and so much more. Finally, while the dinner program portion of the first-ever PCYC Gala @ the Caprion April1is sold out, there are still a number of ways for PCYC/Capri supporters to participate in the Gala.
