Despite all the crazy, snowy weather we’ve had this winter the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) staff continue to work hard to maintain nearly 50 ice rinks across the city.
All ice rinks built on land are open. Most lake rinks are not open yet due to very challenging conditions on the ice. Webber Natural Swimming Pool snow was cleared on January 9 and the general skating rink was expected to open mid-January.
All outdoor ice rinks are free to use; open to the public and lit until at least 9 pm. Every park with a rink has a warming room with an assortment of free loaner skates to borrow. Warming room hours are Monday-Friday 5-9 p.m., Saturdays and school release days noon-9 p.m., Sundays 1-5 p.m.
Minneapolis has outdoor ice rinks at parks citywide. Most offer separate spaces for general skating and recreational uses such as hockey, broomball and pond hockey.
Donate sticks and skates! Parks welcome hockey sticks and ice skates in good condition. Call or visit a park recreation center. For updates and info visit minneapolisparks.org/activities-events/winter_activities/ice_rinks/.
