It’s hard to believe a full year has passed since the Capri re-opened the doors on its freshly remodeled and expanded space! An exhilarating line-up of stellar arts and entertainment keeps on keeping on, including Legends @ the Capri, First Thursday Films and a new session of Capri Glee!
On October 6 at 7 p.m., The Tragedy of Macbeth will be screened as October’s First Thursday Film. Based on the play by William Shakespeare from writer/director Joel Coen, the movie stars Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, Corey Hawkins, Brendan Gleeson and Harry Melling. Actor/director Harry Waters, Jr. will lead the post-show discussion. These conversations with audience members are always thoughtful and rich.
On Saturday, October 15 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 16 at 3 p.m., Legends @ the Capri returns to the stage with Broadway En Noir. “Come and take a musical journey with us – on Broadway,” said Legends Artistic Director Dennis Spears. “We’re celebrating music from historically Black Broadway musicals and show tunes made famous by Black performers. Broadway En Noir will illuminate the frivolity in Ain’t Misbehavin’, the sexiness of Sophisticated Ladies, the energy and intensity in Dreamgirls, and there is definitely Stormy Weather in the forecast.” The season opener features vocalists Kennadi Hurst, Ashley Commodore and John Jamison. Single tickets ($25 each) and season passes ($80) are available now at capri.simpletix.com.
For seven years, Capri Glee! has been bringing the abundant fun of singing to the Northside. Anyone who wants can participate in this adult community choir that rehearses once a week. Two six-week sessions are offered – in the fall and in the spring – and both culminate in a joyous concert open to family, friends and the public, this fall on Tuesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. “I’ve always said — and have seen through my experiences — that music creates community. One of my main objectives is to not only inspire and uplift humanity through music, but also to get singers to sing from their hearts, because what comes from the heart always reaches the heart,” said Capri Glee! Director J.D. Steele. The concert is free with advance registration at thecapri.org.
All programs are at the Capri, 2027 W. Broadway. For details and ticket info visit thecapri.org.
