If you haven’t yet, make sure to take advantage of free events and workshops hosted by community run food gardens! This coming month features events hosted at The Power Garden (344 Morgan Ave N) and the Old Highland Peace Garden (1803 Emerson Ave N). Together with Sovereign Starts, a seedling nursery based out of North Minneapolis, the OH Peace and the Power gardens will be hosting a variety of no-cost events to enjoy and learn about fresh produce grown locally for free!
So, come discover a garden near you, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon outside at one of the upcoming August events. On Saturday, August 13 stop by the Power Garden and learn how to make homemade pesto or chimichurri sauces, with herbs provided by and grown in the garden! (4-5 p.m.).
If you can’t make Saturday, don’t worry! The Power Garden is hosting again, this time together with Youth N’ Power. On Sunday, August 14, come help celebrate the youth group’s tenure helping to tend the garden. Fresh pizza will be served, made with garden-grown ingredients, and baked fresh in the garden’s outdoor pizza oven!
On August 19, it’s Movie Night, hosted by the Old Highland Peace Garden. Come enjoy a beautiful evening, and watch a movie outdoors in the garden! Wall-E will be shown on the projector screen, starting at sunset (around 8 p.m.). Snacks and refreshments provided.
Finally, on Sunday, August 21, come back to the Power Garden and celebrate the harvest season by bringing home free produce, grown in the garden! Don’t forget that every Sunday, from 1-3 p.m., are gardening days at the Power Garden. Stop by to learn about the garden, and bring home fresh vegetables and herbs!
