MSP Film Society is pleased to present a very special screening of Prince’s electrifying concert film Sign ‘O’ the Times on Thursday, March 3, 7 p.m. at the Capri. First Thursday Films,our monthly screening series of noteworthy films, is followed by conversations with filmmakers, artists and entertainment industry professionals. The series is co-presented with the Capri Theater and the Minnesota Historical Society.

Sign ‘O’ the times is Prince’s electrifying concert film from 1987, featuring songs from his album of the same title. Co-staring bandmates and collaborators Sheila E. and Sheena Easton, Minnesota’s charismatic virtuoso is never far from center stage.

A post-screening community discussion follows with music industry legend (including Prince’s tour manager and President of Paisley Park Records) Alan Leeds, and MSP Film Society Programmer (and former President of Paisley Park Productions) Craig Laurence Rice.

Tickets to First Thursday Films are free for Northside residents (zip codes 55411, 55412, 55430) and can be reserved at MSPfilm.org. Northsiders can enter their zip code as a promo code and confirm this information at the door. Tickets for the general public, and members of MSP Film Society and MN Historical Society are $5.

And mark your calendars for April 7 as First Thursday Films presents Nothing But a Man. Michael Roehmer’s Civil Right’s era classic, starring Ivan Dixon as a young man from Alabama grappling with his limited horizons. The post-screening discussion will feature Screenwriter David Grant and MSP Film Programmer Craig Laurence Rice. 

The Capri Theater is located at 2027 West Broadway. First Thursday Films follows all current local COVID-19 protocols, including masks and showing proof of COVID-19 vaccinations or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event, along with a photo ID.
