MSP Film Society is pleased to present a very special screening of How It Feels to Be Free for the February 2022 edition of First Thursday Films, our monthly screening series of noteworthy films followed by conversations with filmmakers, artists, and entertainment industry professionals. How It Feels to Be Free is the inspiring story of how six iconic African American female entertainers – Lena Horne, Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone, Diahann Carroll, Cicely Tyson and Pam Grier – challenged an entertainment industry deeply complicit in perpetuating racist stereotypes, and transformed themselves and their audiences in the process.
A post-screening community discussion follows with the film’s director, Yoruba Richen, and MSP Film Society Programmer Craig Laurence Rice.
