November 11 at 11 a.m. marked the 103rd anniversary of the armistice that ended WWI and thus brought about Armistice Day which was later renamed Veteran’s Day. There are usually some folks who gather at the Victory Memorial Drive Flagpole to mark the occasion, and this year was no different. Unfortunately, there was no sunshine so the shadow of the flagpole did not fall across the Armistice 1918 marker.
This year members of Veterans for Peace met at the Victory Flagpole at 8 a.m. and then walked to the Sheridan Veterans Memorial Park in Northeast Minneapolis. Later a few of the members returned to the Victory Flagpole. The Veterans for Peace group wants to bring the ideals of Armistice and Peace back to November 11. Photo by Buzzy Bohn.
