Henry Ranked #1 in Minneapolis School District by U.S. News & World Report
Each year, the publication U.S. News & World Report ranks 18,000 public high schools nationally after compiling data that includes graduation rates, college readiness and curriculum, and math and reading performance. Henry High was rated #1 in the Minneapolis Public School District and third best in the state out of 414 schools in the latter category. Participation in the International Baccalaureate Program was a factor in Henry’s score, with 54 percent of students enrolled in IB classes. Henry High Senior Prom 2021
The Metropolitan Event Venue in Golden Valley was the site of Henry High School’s 2021 prom on May 7. 125 students and 25 chaperones soaked up the ambience of the themed night, The Enchanted Forest, accented with silver, red and white. The participants sat six to a table, social distancing, and wearing masks except while eating and being photographed.
The tradition of the prom being for juniors and seniors was bypassed this year due to restrictions of pandemic size. This year it was for seniors who formed a committee of volunteers making the decisions as to the site, decorations, menu, and the d.j., J.T. Evans of Royal Music Family of North Minneapolis.
Marcus Zackery, Henry High Public Relations Coordinator and Student Activities Leader, coordinated the event and decorated with the assistance of parents. The staff wanted to show the students their appreciation and be connected to them in person, a factor that figured into the high number of volunteer chaperones. A mask contest provided incentive to the mandate of wearing them. A photo booth was popular with many taking countless selfies. Prom was free this year; including the photos and the delicious food by D’Amico. Thanks to photographer Alex Conover and videographer Paul Compton. Congratulations to prom royalty Ra’Nyhia White and Trayvionne Mitchell.
“It was a great night, an opportunity for students to find some normalcy. And all attendees were appreciative to be together,” states Zackery.
