In January, Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) shared their plan to have students return to their classrooms for in-person learning. Bright Futures, the K-5 after school enrichment program at PCYC, has followed suit, resuming in-person learning for youth in grades K-2 on February 22 and grades 3-5 on March 1.

Bright Futures still has openings for more K-5 scholars who are attending MPS classes in person. The free program runs from 2-5 p.m., Monday through Friday at PCYC, 2210 Oliver Avenue N. Families are welcome to register online anytime at pcyc-mpls.org/brightfutures/.

Bright Futures programs have served Northside youth and families for nearly 40 years! It’s a model program in the community that prides itself on developing quality programming, employing quality staff and creating a culture of achievement for youth.

The Bright Futures daily schedule is focused on academic enrichment, led by experienced youth workers, and using a variety of group work methods ranging from youth worker-created lessons, to electronic learning through iPads, computers and SMARTboards. Youth also have access to Bright Futures on Demand,an online library full of enriching activities that they can complete at their own pace, on their own or with family members.

As in-person programming resumes, the health and safety of students and staff are a top priority. Bright Futures has instituted strict protocols based on expert guidance from the Minnesota Departments of Education and Health, Minneapolis Public Schools and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Detailed info on all Bright Futures safety protocols is available at pcyc-mpls.org/br-updates.

We’ve so enjoyed seeing our youth in person again, and we look forward to meeting more youth and families in person this spring. Resources for families who prefer to continue online learning are also available.
