Registration is on now for the Capri Glee! Adult Community Choir, under the direction of J.D. Steele. Rehearsals will take place Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m., October 8 to November 12 at PCYC, 2210 Oliver. (PCYC is serving as the alternate rehearsal location this year while the Capri Theater is closed for construction.) The choir’s fall concert performance will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 19 at a location to be announced. Register at thecapritheater.org or 612-643-2058.
Anyone age 18 or older is welcome to join in the abundant fun of singing in this choir. Singers at all levels of experience, from none to much, are welcome. There is no fee to participate, though contributions to Capri Glee! are accepted.
J.D. Steele teaches a variety of different songs in different styles to the group, going back to the ‘60s and ‘70s and forward to the contemporary music of now. Fred Steele brings his inimitable style and talents to the choir as piano accompanist and bass section coach, and it all makes for an inspirational and unifying experience.
“I think it’s important to be involved in this multicultural collaboration,” said Director J.D. Steele. “This choir allows us to not only sing together, but also talk with each other and share ideas and community perspectives. This doesn’t happen when we’re enclosed in our own walls.”
Along with these important connections, Capri Glee! also provides uproarious fun for all. Singer Elaine Love says, “This is the most impactful activity I do for myself each year, and this will be my fifth year! Six weeks of music, community, lifted spirits, friendship and fun. Join me!”
