Registration is on now for the Capri Glee! Adult Community Choir under the direction of J.D. Steele. Spring session rehearsals take place on Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m., April 2-May 30, culminating in a joy-filled concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. Rehearsals and the concert are held at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway. Anyone age 18 or older is welcome to sing, and there is no fee to participate, though contributions to the Capri will be accepted. Register at thecapritheater.org or 612-643-2058.
Good things happen when people get together to sing in this choir. Participants learn new and different styles of music and vocal techniques; they make friends; they laugh together (often uproariously); dance a little (or a lot); and support each other.
“Capri Glee! is really something special,” said director J.D. Steele. “I encourage everyone to consider singing with us, and to invite your family and friends to join us, too.” And speaking of family, J.D.’s brother, Fred Steele, is the accompanist for the choir – an extra-added bonus.
Capri Glee! audiences have used words like “unity,” “energy,” “enthusiasm,” and “so genuine” to describe what they experience at the concerts. One singer especially appreciated “the way everyone came together,” and another noted that “J.D. Steele is a treasure.” Indeed, Capri Glee! presents a grand opportunity for fun and learning together with people who like to sing. Everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary.
Note that as the Capri Theater begins construction for expansion and renovation this spring, the Capri Glee! concert kicks off six performances over six days at the Capri (May 7-12). It’ll be a great time to come together on the Northside to celebrate the rich history and bright future of the theater and this community.
