Tutors needed to help kids in reading and math

AmeriCorps programs, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps, have new benefits for tutors. For the 2018-2019 school year, tutors who serve in Minneapolis will receive an additional $200 per month as a housing stipend. In addition, tutors will receive reduced fares on Metro Transit — paying only $1 per ride, when full fares can be as high as $3.25.

More than 250 tutors are needed to help struggling students in Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

In addition to the $200 housing stipend, tutors earn a biweekly living allowance of $597 (full-time) and an education award of up to $5,920 to help pay for further education. Full-time tutors also receive health insurance. Part time positions – including a new three-day position — are also available. No teaching experience is required; tutors receive great training and support.

Through individualized attention, Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors help students from PreK through eighth grade succeed in reading and math. The AmeriCorps programs have helped  250,000 students since they began.
