You won’t have to drive to the suburbs this spring to get flower and vegetable plants for your garden. Goddard’s Gardens is a small garden mart opening at 44th and Penn Ave. N. (parking lot of Goddess of Glass) with annual flowers, vegetable plants, herbs, perennials and shrubs – and gardening advice and classes! Open daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May 1 to July 4. Owner Joanne Goddard says, “We’re proud to be on the Northside and want to provide our neighbors with high quality garden materials and gardening advice. The late spring snow has pushed our suppliers back a week or two but we will have plants for sale on May 1!”

A brand new restaurant has opened at 44th & Penn in the old Victory 44 location. Tori 44 began their ‘soft’ open as of April 17 with the doors halfway open, as they say. We’re expecting chef/co-owner Jason Dorweiler, of the popular Tori Ramen noodle shop in St. Paul, to serve the best! They’ll provide a full service menu – starter plates, entrees and desserts – for lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and dinner from 4-10 p.m. daily and until 11 p.m. on Friday. Go easy on them as they work through the processes involved in a new endeavor. And while you’re there, take a peek at the giant ramen-making equipment in the old coffee shop area – fresh noodles for the restaurant made on site!

The MN Women’s Press annual reader survey chose The Goddess of Glass, at The Warren on 44th and Penn, for the favorite place to take a class for the second year in a row! The formal announcement was made in the March issue and a certificate awarded. For more on what these awesome classes are visit goddessofglass.com/classes. And join them on Saturday, June 9 as they mark their 8th year in business, with donut coupons to The Thirsty Whale (42nd and Fremont), a raffle and other special offers! The Goddess of Glass sells locally handcrafted gifts and picture framing along with the variety of art classes offered. Visit the Ryder Gallery when you’re there for a show by Northside artist Donyelle Headington and save Sunday, June 3 for a closing celebration.
