Patrick Henry High School’s Drama Club is performing the spring musical Into the Woods this March. Once again Henry has partnered with Loring and Olson School students to perform the production.
Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella and other folk tales.
The production is a modern twist on the fairy tales which are tied together into one adventure. A story full of determination and fun. Into the Woods tells the story of a baker and his wife who want to have a child, Cinderella wants to go to the festival, Jack wants to keep the cow and Little Red Riding Hood wants to see her grandmother. So many conflicts and one night to fix everything.
Will these folktale characters be able to live happily ever after? Come see Henry’s Drama Club to find out! The performances are on Thursday and Friday, March 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. in Patrick Henry’s auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students and children. We hope to see you there!
