I was an adult in the 1980s when President Reagan and the Republicans passed a tax reform bill in which they claimed their “Trickle Down Theory” would result in a greatly improved economy. Since that bill passed the middle class wages have stagnated. The middle class are barely keeping their heads above water while the richest among us are swimming in luxury.
Now President Trump and the Republicans want to repeat this history to further improve their wealth while reforming taxes so that the cost will again be borne by the middle class. These are the same Republicans who refused to support any bill that increased the deficit. This bill will increase the deficit by $1.2 trillion, a fact the Republicans have chosen to ignore and/or down play.
The Trickle Down Theory didn’t work in the ‘80s and won’t work in the 2000s, but it will succeed in transferring even more wealth from the middle class to the upper class. I believe that the voters who made Trump president are part of the middle class who pays the price for this tax reform.
