Wirth Coop, 1835 Penn, held their official grand opening on October 26 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and featured store specials, food samples, music and raffle prizes. The store is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is stocked with organic and conventional foods (based on resident survey results). Come shop at the store and support the local coop. For membership, you can join at wirth.coop/becoming-an-owner/. But keep in mind you do not need a coop membership to shop at the store. If you’re on Facebook, like the Wirth Coop page so you can stay current on news, activities and feedback: facebook.com/wirth.coop/. Most Northsiders live over one mile from a single supermarket, making it one of the largest federally-designated food deserts in the country; hence the need for accessible food, the desire to bring new life into the neighborhood, and the need to boost the local economy. Wirth hopes to be a great source of neighborhood strength, pride and sustainability.
