Three well-established Capri Theater programs resume this fall after a brief summer hiatus. Camp Capri S3, CAST and Freedom of Xpression creatively cater to different age groups and interests, are free, and take place at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway.
Camp Capri S3 (third Saturdays) for middle school-age students, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the third Saturday of every month starting September 16. Free. Lunch provided.
Capri Theater Artistic Associate Dennis Spears and monthly guest artists lead the students in a rich variety of activities, from pumpkin carving and theater arts to painting and jewelry making, with each experience designed to spark students’ interests and help them discover their innermost talents and strengths.
CAST (Capri After School Theater) for high school-age students, 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 26. Free.
CAST gives high school-age students the opportunity to delve into all aspects of theater and to participate in
a performance at the end of every session (fall, winter, spring). Director Kevin West encourages students to express themselves freely and confidently. “They’re also taught how to discover and use their own natural ability as an instrument to further themselves in the art of theater and in the art of life management,” says West.
Freedom of Xpression Open Mic for all ages, 6 p.m. on the first Monday of every month beginning October 2. All ages. All genres. Doors open at 5:30 for registration and on-stage rehearsal. Free.
Host Desdamona invites and welcomes everyone to the Capri stage to showcase their gifts of music, spoken word, dance, poetry…whatever the art may be and at whatever stage of development the work is. Performances and guided audience feedback are a part of every evening, to the delight of all. It’s your turn. It’s your time. Bring your art to the Capri.
