Community activities

Start planning now for youth and family summer activities. There are many activities available this summer and now is the time to begin plans and sign up for activities. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s spring and Summer Park Highlights guide is full of fun facts and activity ideas to help kids and families explore the parks and recreation centers. Copies are available at recreation centers and libraries and an electronic version is available at minneapolisparks.org. There is something for everyone!

Minneapolis Police Activities League (PAL) is a non-profit organization, located in Webber-Camden neighborhood that is dedicated to reducing juvenile crime and violence by giving kids a safe place to play, positive role models, and creative activities to engage in—all for free. Visit their website at minneapolispal.org or call 612-673-3447 for more information on this summer’s programs and schedule.

Webber Park Pool is scheduled to open for pre-season hours on May 27-29 from 1-7 p.m. and June 3-4 from 1-7 p.m., with regular season hours beginning June 10. Check the Park Board website for more information and details about the pool at minneapolisparks.org and search “Webber Pool.”

North Mississippi Regional Park and the Carl W. Kroening Interpretive Center will also feature summer programming and activities for youth and families. Visit minneapolisparks.org for more information.

Outdoor music in the parks will begin in June and run thru September. More than 200 free concerts will be performed in various parks throughout the city this summer. Check out mplsmusicandmovies.com for the full schedule, posted mid-May.

Many of our local churches also offer summer programming. Check your neighborhood church for information on what’s available. North Regional Library and Webber Library will also offer many activities for youth and families throughout the summer. Visit hclib.org to find out more information.

Webber Park Library Grand Opening May 18

Webber Park Library will celebrate its grand opening on Thursday, May 18 at 5:15 p.m. at the new facility, 4440 Humboldt Ave N. Hear remarks from Hennepin County Commissioners Linda Higgins and Mike Opat, Library Director Lois Langer Thompson, and other local leaders. The library will then be open after the ribbon cutting until 8 p.m. for everyone to explore and enjoy.

Pedestrian safety during construction

Please be extra cautious of pedestrians this spring and summer. There are several construction projects happening in North Minneapolis including I-94 and various city projects. Our Public Works staff is working with traffic control and MPD to address issues as they arise. If you have questions or concerns related to any construction project, please contact our office at 612-673-2204.
