Season wrestling notes

A new head coach, same journey! The Patriot Grapplers concluded the 2016-17 wrestling season achieving a variety of team and individual accolades. Henry was led by seven seniors, many who have served the program for three or more years.  Our individual match total was 168 wins and 133 losses.  These seniors accounted for over half of our varsity wins (69). Our seniors continued to shine as four seniors placed in the 5AA section tournament.

For the third year in a row we find ourselves finishing tied for second place with Washburn in an improving Minneapolis City Conference with a record of  4-2. Within our conference, 28 All Conference awards were earned. Patrick Henry wrestlers received six All Conference recognitions.

Our duel season record was 9-11 with four losses of six points or less. In the tournament season 90 percent of the wrestling team medaled in at least one tournament. There are multiple ways to win a wrestling match but no greater way then by pin. This season the Patriots put 109 different opponents on their back! Over 75 percent of our totals wins were by PIN!

We wish our seniors well as they continue on their individual paths to greatness. Each will be deeply missed! Looking ahead we have an exciting group of wrestlers returning next season and with the success of our youth program the future is bright. A well-deserved thank you to all of the school administrators, coaches, managers and volunteers, and especially family and fans for the constant support through this season and seasons to come!
