Film Society presents Beasts of the Southern Wild and International Film Festival screenings

The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul and the Capri Theater are teaming up for two exciting film events at the Capri in April. First, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, First Thursday Films @ the Capri presents the multi-award-winning Beasts of the Southern Wild, a vivid tale of poverty and love, shot in the coastal parishes of Louisiana. Tickets to First Thursdays are $5; purchased in advance at mspfilm.org or at the door the night of the show.

Then, for the first time, the Film Society brings the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF) to the Capri on April 27, 28 and 29. MSPIFF is the largest film event in the region and one of the longest running film festivals in the country. Festival screening tickets are $13 for general admission, $11 for Film Society members, and $8 for ages 25 and under and students. Get tickets at mspfilm.org or at the door. MSPIFF screenings at the Capri include:

Thursday, April 27 – All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception, and the Spirit of I. F. Stone, a contemporary American documentary; 4:45 p.m. Lipstick Under My Burkha, contemporary fiction from India that chronicles the secret lives of four women who are seeking a little freedom; 7 p.m.

Friday, April 28 – Step documents the senior year of a girl’s high school step team in inner-city Baltimore; 5 p.m. The Wedding Ring, contemporary fiction about a young woman from Niger who returns to her home village after finishing college abroad; 7 p.m.

In addition to this fine slate of April films, Capri Director James Scott is pleased to announce that a state-of-the art digital cinema projector has been installed in the theater. “Capri moviegoers will now enjoy brighter, sharper, more beautiful images on our screen,” said Scott. “The new projector is an added benefit for rental clients who want to screen films here as well.”
