The incomparable Ginger Commodore and an all-star cast of Twin Cities artists celebrate the life and music of Natalie Cole in Sophisticated Lady: A Tribute to Natalie Cole, at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 10 and 3 p.m. Sunday, September 11 at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway.
As the daughter of Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole rose to musical success as an R&B artist in the mid-1970s. Ginger Commodore gravitated to Cole’s music early on and used it as a springboard for her singing and performing career. “If Natalie recorded it, I learned it,” said Commodore, and thus she brings a profound affinity and long-held love for Cole’s music to these concerts.
You’ll hear Natalie Cole’s hits, This Will Be, Inseparable and Our Love along with some jazz songs that she shared with her father including Unforgettable. You’ll also be delighted by the musical stylings of Javier Santiago (piano); Tony Axtell (bass); Commodore’s son Brandon (drums), Deevo Dee (guitar) and Daryl Boudreaux (percussion). Sounds of Blackness alums, Ashley Commodore (Ginger’s daughter) and Chreese Jones will be on hand to provide additional vocals.
Natalie Cole earned nine Grammy awards, sold millions of records, and logged some 300 television appearances over her five-decade career. Her amazing career, celebrated through the artistry of Commodore and friends, will make these concerts truly unforgettable!
