Rising above the rest

Twenty-five young ladies have dedicated themselves to rejuvenating a not-so-well-known sport on the Northside. This group of ladies rises above the rest, exhibiting patience, mental toughness, commitment and perseverance–the necessary tools, but not often found in teenagers.

The Patriot Softball Team was in full swing this spring playing at their home field, Creekview Park. The girls bonded, overcame adversity, won a few games, and received team, as well as individual, awards. Junior Florentina Fannapin received all-conference, as well as being the top base stealer in the metro. Sophomore Olivia Lawrence also received all-conference as well as being in the top five for strikeouts in the section.

Throughout the summer our ladies continued to develop, representing North Minneapolis by playing for Creekview Recreation Center in the RBI league offered by the Minnesota Twins.  Patrick Henry Senior and Northside native, Sofia Caprini, emerged during the season earning All Star honors and playing in a regional tournament hosted by the Twins. Great things are happening in our community!

We invite any middle school, or Patrick Henry students and families who would like to get involved with softball to contact head coach Anthony Minus at Patrick Henry High School, anthony.minus@mpls.k12.mn.us.
