Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul presents First Thursday Films @ the Capri, Car Wash

Outrageous comedy and hilarious performances are coming your way when First Thursday Films @ the Capri presents a blast from the past:  Car Wash –  at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4. Tickets are $5, purchase in advance at mspfilm.org or at the door the night of the show. The Capri is located at 2027 West Broadway.

Car Wash is a much-loved, day-in-the-life cult comedy about a group of friends working at Sully Boyar’s Car Wash in Los Angeles. The friends meet dozens of eccentric customers including a smooth-talking preacher (Richard Pryor), a wacky cab driver (George Carlin), an ex-con, a mad bomber and a hysterical Beverly Hills lady, among others, all the while cracking nonstop jokes to a soundtrack of disco and funk. Working at the car wash, Working at the car wash, yeah…

The late film critic Roger Ebert wrote that Car Wash is “…a dizzying, nonstop kaleidoscope of cars, soul music, characters, crises, crazy kids on skateboards, hookers, television preachers, and lots of suds and hot wax. …The movie’s put together with a manic energy, we never even quite get introduced to half the people in the cast, but by the movie’s end we know them, and what they’re up to, and we like them.”

Sounds like fun!  And it’s a chance to sit with a bunch of people in one room and laugh out loud together. Wouldn’t that feel good?!

The remaining schedule of First Thursday Films @ the Capri includes: Middle of Nowhere, September 1; Dear White People, October 6; Half Past Autumn: The Life and Works of Gordon Parks, November 3; and Daughters of the Dust, December 1. More info at  thecapritheater.org and mspfilm.org.
